Samsung's summer Unpacked event wrapped up yesterday (July 22) in London, and this year it wasn't just another spec bump. Samsung has split its Fold line into two separate phones for the first time, and pricing moved up enough that it's worth talking through before anyone here pulls the trigger on a pre-order or an import unit.
What actually changed
For the last few generations, "Galaxy Z Fold" meant one tall, narrow book-style phone. That's over. Samsung now sells two:
- Galaxy Z Fold 8 — a new wider, shorter body. Closed, it behaves like a normal phone instead of a narrow slab. This is the design change Samsung has been teasing for months.
- Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra — this is effectively the spiritual successor to last year's Fold 7, keeping the taller, narrower shape, but now carrying the "Ultra" badge and Samsung's top-tier internals.

Both phones get the new titanium hinge substrate Samsung is calling Flex Titanium, which is aimed squarely at the crease complaint that's followed every Fold since the first one.

What this means if you're in Pakistan
Samsung hasn't published PTA-approved local retail pricing yet — that usually lags the global announcement by a few weeks, so treat any number floating around right now as unconfirmed. Given the US/EU pricing and where the Fold 7 landed after PTA tax and import duties last year, expect the Fold 8 to sit meaningfully higher than last year's launch price once it's officially available through local channels. Grey market units will likely show up faster than official stock, as usual, but PTA registration cost is the number that actually decides whether that's a good deal.
