Been seeing this pop up in every tech group chat this week, so figured I'd start a proper thread instead of answering the same question ten times.
Short version: Apple's splitting the iPhone 18 lineup this year. The Pro and Pro Max come out on schedule in September 2026, but the regular iPhone 18 and the 18e get pushed all the way to spring 2027. That's a first for Apple, and it's a big part of why "iPhone 18 Pro Max release date" is suddenly one of the most searched phone terms in Pakistan right now.
What's basically confirmed at this point:
- Keynote is expected September 9, with pre-orders opening that Friday and phones on shelves around September 18. Apple's stuck to this exact rhythm for years, so there's no reason to expect a surprise this time.
- The Pro Max is getting Apple's first 2nm chip, the A20 Pro. Leakers are also saying RAM might finally jump from 8GB to 9GB or even 12GB, which honestly should have happened two generations ago.
- Apple's dropping Qualcomm entirely on these models and going all-in on its own C2 modem.
- Camera-wise, the big rumor is a variable aperture on the main sensor plus a jump to a 24MP front camera. Battery is rumored north of 5,000mAh.
- Alongside the Pro Max, Apple's also expected to reveal its first folding iPhone the same week, which is probably eating half the spotlight at this point.
None of that is locked until Apple actually says it out loud on stage, so treat it as "very likely," not "confirmed confirmed."
Now for the part that actually matters if you're buying in Pakistan.
We all watched what happened with the 17 Pro Max — PTA-approved units settled around Rs. 565,000, and CNIC registration tax alone runs close to Rs. 213,000 on top of the non-PTA price. The Pro Max didn't even get a price hike globally last year ($1,199 held steady), but with a new chip node and possibly more RAM, I wouldn't bet on that holding twice in a row. If Apple does bump the US price even by $50-100, that gets multiplied fast once it lands in the PKR/PTA math.
So the real question for this thread: are you buying at launch, buying used/JV to dodge the tax, or sitting this one out until the 18 Pro Max prices drop next year like the 16 Pro Max has now?
